Hi! I’m Avery (he/they)
I believe everyone deserves a good therapist, because being a person is hard. I’ve included a little bit of information about my background, style, and areas of expertise—if you have any questions, I encourage you to reach out!
Background & Education
I have over a decade of experience in the mental health field. I received my Bachelors in Cognitive Science from UCLA and completed my graduate studies at USC. I’ve provided therapy, assessment, and advocacy in a range of environments including community mental health, hospitals, and the foster care system. Prior to private practice, I also worked as a researcher on academic and industry trials, supervised newly minted crisis counselors, and held project management roles for non-profits and biotech companies.
The therapy and consulting services that I offer are specialized in content but broad in application. Most people come to me for support with OCD/anxiety, trauma, psychedelic work, and/or DEI initiatives as I have extensive training in all of these areas. While I don’t typically work outside of these niches, my background allows me to approach each topic from many different angles and to move fluidly between roles. I am equally comfortable functioning as a therapist, trainer/supervisor, clinical trialist, and project manager.
Approach
My style is relational, affirming, and flexible to your needs and goals. Whether you’re seeking long-term therapy, short-term psychedelic work, or consulting services, I believe the best relationships are built on collaboration and non-judgement. As a queer/trans, biracial, and neurodivergent clinician, I am committed to providing high quality, culturally sensitive care to people of all backgrounds.
In the therapy room, I’m sex/kink positive, poly-affirming, and practice from a Health at Every Size perspective. I draw on a range of modalities including psychodynamic (talk) therapy, EMDR, Exposure and Response Prevention, I-CBT, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, parts work/inner child healing, somatic (mind-body) interventions, and ketamine/psychedelic-assisted therapy.
As a consultant, I’ve been told that I have a knack for synthesizing and streamlining information, making opaque and difficult topics feel approachable, and offering feedback in a way that aligns with an agency’s mission and consumers.
